Rest.

Today, I’ve decided it’s a day of rest. My busy schedule is overwhelming me.

And, when you’re a writer, and business owner and a homeschooling mom that tends to happen.

So today I’m chillaxing. Well, as much as I can. But, I know me. My “rest” mostly means I piddle around the house doing those things I don’t have time to do any other day. Like shredding old papers, organizing my books. (Yeah, I gotta lot of those!) And, possibly washing some loads of laundry. Yeah…my rest may not look like rest to everyone.

What does rest look like to you?

Is it sitting and reading a book uninterrupted? (Oh mah gah! This is my dream!)

Or, is it truly resting? Taking a nap? Lying in a hammock? Doing nothing?

One thing I’ve learned as a wife and a mother…

We have to take our rest or someone else will take it for us.

If we don’t call our time as valuable, no one else will either.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Genesis 2:2-3 (Emphasis mine)

Rest, people. It’s okay. God set the example for us. He needed it so we need it, too.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

We are all created in the exact image of God with all of His needs. God needed rest after creating, and we do, too. (“Creating” is a much more fun word than “working,” right?)

So take it. And, today I take mine. I am resting. I am relaxing and pouring these words out to you to encourage you to take your day, whichever day that may be. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a Sunday. Sometimes my Sundays are so chock full of church activities that they don’t feel much like rest. Is Saturday your day? Take it. Is Monday your day? Roll with the flow.

Your life is your life. Go with what’s best for you. My Sabbath changes every week. This week it is Thursday. Next week? Who knows! Well, God does.

I know one thing. For the sanity of my family and the sanctity of my marriage, Momma needs a rest day!

I encourage you to take a day of rest each week. ” Pfffft, NOT POSSIBLE!” you spew at me spraying coffee all over the computer screen. “You crazy lady!”

Okay, I get that, too. So, 30 minutes? Uninterrupted YOU Time? An hour? A walk around the block? Take it for yourself. You deserve it.

Why not dive in and take a day.

And, I promise you God will be with you. Ask Him along on the ride.

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
