I never saw this scripture before.
Have you?
I love it when I come across verses that I have read over and over, yet God shows me something different in them.
A new view.
A different perspective.
Today’s is no different.
In Luke 7:23, Jesus says:
“And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”
We sure do like to feel offended these days, don’t we?
About everything.
Yet one thing we should not be offended by are the teachings of Jesus.
The Bible says we will be though. And that Christians will suffer for it.
I have never noticed this verse until today. Maybe it’s because everyone talks about being “offended” lately. Maybe because it seems more relevant in today’s time. Maybe it’s because the Holy Spirit wanted me to.
But whatever the case…
God loves you.
And He sent His beloved Son here to teach us–to be our great rabboni–and to show us the true heart and meaning of God.
I am not offended by Jesus’ teachings.
But I do get convicted.
When I don’t love my neighbor as myself.
When I don’t show the “greatest of these” — Love.
When I put my needs before everyone else’s.
When I’m not mirroring Christ.
It’s hard. Life is hard. But Jesus came to give us life in abundance. He came to teach us the heart and will of the Father. ALL of it. Not just the things no one gets offended by.
And I want that. Do you?
I challenge you to read the teachings of Jesus. Let me know what He says that offends you. To fast track this, go to Matthew. Mark, Luke or John in the New Testament and read the red-letter words of Jesus.
And remember…
I love you,ย and God loves you too. ๐
Here’s the entire section in case your interested:
“And he answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.’โ
