We don’t know the day our Lord is coming.
There’s many scriptures in the Bible that tell us to be prepared for the great and mighty day Jesus returns.
Today, I was listening to the daily meditation from Pray As You Go (I really enjoy this app so here’s a link of you’d like to check it out.). And part of this scripture shocked me so much I spit out my tea!
It’s Matthew 24:40-51. It’s kinda long so stay with me.
“Two men will be working in the fields. One will be taken, the other left.
“Two women will be grinding grain with a mill. One will be taken, the other left.
“So stay alert, because you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.
“But consider this: if the house-owner knew what time a thief was coming, he would keep watch. He would not allow his house to be broken into and robbed.
“You also need to be ready, because the Son of man is coming at a time when you’re not expecting him.
“For who is the trustworthy and thoughtful servant? It’s the one his master puts in charge of his household to provide them with food at the proper time. How good it will be for that servant to be found doing that when his master returns! I tell you the truth: the master will put that servant in charge over everything he has. But if he was evil, the servant would say to himself, โMy master is taking a long time,โ and would start beating the other servants, feasting and drinking with the drunks. Then that servant’s master will return when the man doesn’t expect him, at a time he doesn’t know. He’ll cut him to pieces, and treat him in the same way as the hypocrites, sending him to a place where there’s crying and gnashing of teeth.โ

He’ll what? ๐ณ
Oh, how I want to know the original translation of this passage!
“He’ll cut him to pieces and treat him the same way as the hypocrites.”
Ummmm. I’ve never heard this before! So like any good Christ follower, I researched. (Always research and question passages you do not understand. God promises in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call out to me, and I will answer you, explaining to you amazing, hidden things about which you don’t have any idea.” (FBV))
I compared different Bible translations. They all said he’d cut ya! Like a scary shank-wielding convict in the pen.
But I did find this is the amplified version:
“And will punish him [cut him up by scourging] and put him with the pretenders (hypocrites); there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.” (Matthew 24:51 AMPC)
Okay. That makes more sense. Not fun sense by any means.
Who desires a good scourging? Not I.
When Jesus returns it will be like a thief in the night. We won’t be given the day or the hour. We won’t know a thing.
Until we hear that glorious trumpet call. And poof. We’re done. Praise Him! (When you get a minute, read 1 Thessalonians 5. Good stuff!)
So be ready. Let’s help eachother be ready every second of every day. Fill your life with the Word of God. Let Him guide and direct your path. He has great things for you.
So let’s ready ourselves, my friend, “because the Son of man is coming at a time when you’re not expecting him.”
I want to be ready. Do you?
