Jesus Did It. Will You? – What does the Bible say about being overwhelmed?

Today, I learned about Jesus.

Well, it wasn’t something brand new I learned, but it was something I needed to hear in a different way. Don’t you love how God does that?!

Here’s how it happened👇

I listen to Darren Daily, well…daily and today’s I had to share with you!

Darren Dailies are short motivational videos by Darren Hardy. If you are into growing your business and improving your life, I suggest you check him out. He’s not for everyone, but I’ve known about him for years and have recently renewed my habit of listening to him every morning. And every morning I learn something new.

In today’s Darren Daily, he chatted about overwhelm and how everyone experiences it.

Even Jesus.

Yes, Jesus, our divine Lord and Savior, needed to get away at times. He was human too after all. I realized today what a beautiful example He gave us. At times, we too need to get away. And it’s okay.

When life gets UGH and you can’t handle any more conflict, decisions or to-do list items, try this:

1. Get away by yourself and “shut the door.” (Literally or figuratively)

2. Breathe <–Important. And take a big one. Not one of those pitiful, half-hearted breaths. A BIG one.

3. Get it out –> grab a paper and pen and write it all down. Everything. Every thought. Get it out of your head so you don’t have to think about it any longer. From what to cook for dinner to bills you have to pay to so-and-so said this and it hurt my feelings (valid and important). Get it out of your brain.

4. If you haven’t prayed already, pray now. You’ll need it. HA! J/K (Kinda) This step is when you release all of your thoughts to God and put them into categories of importance. Ask Him: What needs to be done right now? What can wait until tomorrow or doesn’t have to happen at all? Really narrow this down. Your time is important and you can’t get it back. (We chatted about this in our email yesterday.)

5. Now take one step. That’s it. Just one. Because the rest will follow.

In case you’d like some proof, here are some scriptures to show you that Jesus did indeed need time away. But He wasn’t playing on His phone or binge watching his favorite show. In every instance, the scriptures say He was communing with God.

  • Matthew 14:23:“When he had sent the crowds away, he went up on a mountain by himself to pray. And when evening came, he was there alone.”
  • Mark 1:35:“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, left the house and went to a place where he could pray.”
  • Luke 5:16:“But Jesus would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.”
  • Luke 6:12:“In those days he went into the hills to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God.”
  • Luke 9:28:“About eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.”
  • John 6:15:“Then Jesus, realizing that they were about to come and make Him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by Himself.”
  • Matthew 26:36:“Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

So the next time you are overwhelmed, try it. GO AWAY. Go to your “wilderness,” be that your bedroom, nature trail, coffee shop, or the front seat of your car and spend some time communing with God, then email me and tell me how it makes you feel.

I pray you have a blessed and joy-filled day today.đź’–
