I discovered a really cool thing this week while scrolling through YouTube.
It was about how, when you are a parent experiencing trauma, or when you are going through a season of life where you are in survival mode, your brain can focus on only one thing: keeping you alive.
If you are experiencing a traumatic event or a season in life where you are in survival mode, you are not physically able to imagine, visualize, or create because your brain takes over everything.
Your brain thinks a tiger is going to jump out of the bushes and rip your throat out at any second.
So, it has better things to do than help you imagine, create, and envision your perfect life. You are literally trying to stay alive because your brain thinks you are in a life-or-death situation.
All those years when it was really, really, really hard for me to create, I now understand why.
I thought it was me.
I thought I had lost my ability to write, to create and to envision the worlds I come up with in my fiction writing.
I thought it was me.
It wasn’t me at all.
It was biology.
