Have you lost it?

I discovered something this week that changed the way I see several years of my life.

When you are living through trauma or prolonged stress, your brain is focused on protecting you.

It is watching for danger.

It is trying to solve the next problem.

It is preparing for the tiger it thinks might jump out of the bushes and rip your throat out at any second.

Do you know what it is not prioritizing?

Helping you sit peacefully at your desk and imagine an entirely new world.

For years, I thought I had lost my ability to write.

I thought something inside me was broken.

But maybe my creativity was not gone.

Maybe my brain was simply busy keeping me alive.

It wasn’t me.

It was biology.

Have you ever gone through a season when you felt like you lost your creativity?
