New Year. New Me?

For the past few days I’ve been thinking.

Praying, actually.

For some focus in my writing.

You see. I love to write. I love to create worlds and beings and treasures for people to behold. I love to put on paper what I see in this crazy head. But, one thing is getting in my way.

Priorities.

Or, maybe the lack there of.

So, I’ve been praying, asking and seeking.

How should I write?

When should I write?

How am I going to get all this done?

Are you like me with so many things pulling you in opposite directions you’re like that poor dog Doug in Up!, but instead of one squirrel, you feel like you have a thousand?

That’s me. But, I’ve learned something. To be the best me I can be, I have to prioritize. I have to put things aside that don’t make me me, that don’t bring me joy and that don’t further where I want to see myself to be.

Now, I know there are things we have to do.

We have to wash dishes.

We have to clean house.

And, I don’t know about you, but at my house, laundry is always calling.

But, in all the must do’s, I must find the have to’s. The things that I have to do to make my heart full and my burdens light.

I woke up early today. And, I wrote. And, I will write every day. And, my heart is full.

I wrote for me and not my clients. I wrote for them, too–getting all those gifs designed and New Year’s Best Wishes posted.

I did it. But, I wrote for me, too. And, now I’m writing for you. And, I’m so grateful!

Thank you for being on this journey with me in 2018, and thank you for breaching 2019 with me! Let’s see how far we can go!

Be blessed, joy filled, and God loves you!

Why do you…

Hey, everybody!

I was just sitting here thinking…

I really love talking with y’all.

I saw an Instagram post today that said something like, If you don’t enjoy blogging, then you’re not doing it right.”

I’ve been seeing this a lot lately. If you don’t enjoy blogging, then…

your topic is wrong.

your niche is in the wrong place.

you just haven’t found your “spot” in the universe.

Today, let’s find your spot! I know. I know.

“It’s not that easy”

“I don’t know my spot.”

“What’s a spot?”

I’m going through the same thing. And, over the last few months, I’ve committed myself to find my “spot.” I have one thing that I love. One thing that I would do all day everyday if the kid, dogs and cats didn’t expect to be fed and taken care of constantly. I would get up early to do it. Go to bed late to finish it. Not make plans to see it happen. And, hoard books, papers and pencils to see it through.

My spot is to write. I don’t write because I want to. I write because I have to.

But, for so long, I didn’t know what my spot was. I was too busy living life the way I thought I should. I worked to pay bills; I never worked it as a career. Until I became a managing editor of a publishing company that it all clicked. Kinda. Except I had this lie told to me that I had to work for someone else to have the life of my dreams.

In reality, all I was doing was working my butt off to help their dreams come true.

Not any more.

I am now exceedingly ready to live my own dreams. To create my own reality. To be the person my God created me to be.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. I draw strengths from His truths, and I trust what His word says about me.

What is your “have to?”

Is it drawing?

Cooking?

Writing like me?

LARPing? (I always wanted to do this! One day I will!)

Costume designing?

Model aircraft design?

Certified public accounting?

You have one. What makes your heart smile? What makes you take a deep breath and your soul say, “YES!”

That’s your spot.

Okay! Don’t keep me in suspense! What is it?!?!? I can’t wait to hear!

I have a life update! I submitted my Short, Short Story for the Writer’s Digest Competition. Y’all. This was a HUGE step for this stay-at-home mom/yearn-to-be-famous writer in Texas. It blessed my socks off just to enter! What if I win?!?!? I’ll take all of you with me to the annual conference! At least cyberly!

In other news… I’m about to launch my Instagram specifically for my writing! In the meantime, check out my minimalism and outdoor life feed at @Survival_Babe, where I post about our daily adventures (usually more than kids and cats) and getting rid of stuff for #Donate365 (never about kids and cats!).

BE BLESSED! Joy-filled! And, please drink some egg nog for me!

Your lactose-intolerate writer friend,

She will bear a son…

She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:21 NRSV
https://bible.com/bible/2016/mat.1.21.NRSV

Whenever I see this verse, I am always filled with peace and knowing.

God truly does speak to us. Do you have a question that needs answering.?

Do you need a push?

An inkling?

Something to get you going in the right direction?

Just ask.

He will answer. I need you to trust me and Him on this. Just ask and see.

I know. I know. It can be hard to trust. But, try it just once. Try it when you have all the time in the world.

And, try it when you don’t.

Just ask.

From CNN: ‘Sesame Street’ Muppet is first to experience homelessness

I am an avid hunger fighter and homelessness advocate in my community. When I saw this I had to share. Not only is this a fantastic initiative from the Sesame Workshop team, but a great read about hunger and homelessness among our nation’s children and youth.

Check it out for some startling and accurate statistics. The link is at the bottom.

There IS something you can do. I urge you to pray about your roll in ending hunger and homelessness in your community today. Wherever you are. Whatever your income level. There IS something you can do to help in the lives of those who are experiencing hunger-panged stomachs or no roofs over their heads.

Thank you so much for reading this. I pray you have a very blessed day!
